Summer Film Camp '09
The idea for Film Camp evolved from filmmaking workshops we conducted in the South African Townships of Mamelodi, Soshanguve, Ga-Rankuwa and in Temba during 2008 where we realised the significance of giving young people the opportunity to tell stories usi ng professional video equipment and techniques and to stretch their creative wings. 2009 was the first year of Wakefield Summer Film Camp. In it 26 young people from 10 to 17 years of age participated in one of three weeks of intensive film production. They wrote, shot, and edited two films. They composed and recorded the soundtracks in a professional sound studio. These six films from our first Summer Film Camp are the results. – Robert & Brenda Rooney
